Sample Day Two in Our Classroom

Thursday Sept 9, 2010
Theme: Family Tree/Trees


8:45-9:00 Arrival
* Familiarize children with classroom
* Sensory Sand/Alphabet Activity

9:15-9:35 Welcome & Circle Time
* Welcome Name Song
* Pledge of Allegiance
* Review Classroom Rules
* Weather Song/Calendar and Activities
* ABC song, "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" CD

9:35-9:55 Fine Motor/Language Arts/Math:
* Tracing and Pre-writing Activities (Handwriting without tears will be introduced in the 2nd or 3rd week of school)
* "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" Phonemic Awareness & Same/Different Activity
* ABC song and order game
* Count the Coconuts on the Tree Activity/Have students sort various sizes, colors, and shapes of Band-Aids!

9:55-10:10 Wash Hands/SnackTime: Aided by Miss Tara, children wash their hands and enjoy a family style snack that supports the development of social skills.

10:10-10:30 Large Motor Play/Outside Time:
Hopefully the weather is beautiful this day and we will go on a group walk around the neighborhood and explore various trees.

10:40-11:20 Weekly Themed Literature/Craft Time:
* Read and Discuss "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom"
* Make a “Chicka Boom Boom Tree” from celery, peanut butter, and Alph-Bits cereal! Yum! (I put this in here as a craft, because I didn't think many preschoolers would munch on celery!

11:20-11:35 Learning Centers:
* Computer Learning Center: Coconut Tree Lesson
* Art Center: Students sponge paint ABC's (in order, randomly, names, etc.)!
* Construction Center: Transportation/Blocks
* Dramatic Center: Dressups/Role Play
* Reading Center: Audio Books
* Trough Center: Sand

11:35-11:45 Prep for Dismissal:
* Review and Discussion time
* Sing songs (ABC song,Wheels on the Bus and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom )
* Prep for Dismissal

* Learning Game: Remind students that the letters in Chicka Chicka Boom Boom were originally going up the tree in a certain order. Once all of the letters fell from the tree, they were all mixed up! Have students help put the letters back into ABC order! Pass out one letter card to each student. As a class, sing the ABC song. Have the student who is holding the current letter being sung, stand up.

We will start colors next week.
